The Auris loop

This typical cross-country loop winds its way along the balcony paths of Auris. This is a pleasant, south-facing route, where you can explore some interesting single tracks, ride through unspoiled hamlets and enjoy amazing views over La Meije.

> Starting from the Orgières car park in Auris, follow signs to «Plancet», taking a path off to the right, which starts just below the parking area for motorhomes. The gradual descent is on a narrow path, taking you on a 2 km ride through a lovely wood of Scots pines.
> When you arrive at the Piégut ridge, turn down left onto a straight, steep path leading down to Plancet. Shortly after the Plancet picnic area, don’t miss the junction where you turn off towards the hamlet of Les Certs. Ride past the fence on the left and then across the fields to Les Certs.
> Once there, ride up through the hamlet and join up with a lovely path that leads up to Les Cours. Carry on through Les Cours, up towards the «Chemin du Facteur» or Postman’s Path which leads to the Croix de Trévoux. From there, join up with the road and turn left for the hamlet of Puy-le-Haut.
> From Puy, follow signs for the Col de Cluy via the Chemin du Lauzat and then on the 4WD track that takes you past the Grange Perchoux (barn). It’s quite a climb up to the Col de Cluy (5 km, with 500 m height gain). If you prefer, you can reduce this uphill section by riding directly to the Chapelle St-Giraud once you are on the 4WD track.
> Just before arriving at the Col de Cluy (1800 m), turn left onto a small grassy path that leads to the Chapelle St-Giraud.
> Just before reaching the road, take the small path that leads up to the Chapelle St-Giraud. Ride behind the chapel and follow the path that runs just above the road back to Auris.
