Reaching Alpe d'Huez from Oz is child's play - just take your bike with you in the cable car and the wide, open areas are all yours!
This ride around the lakes starts from the moment you step down from the cable car.
From the Oz cable car, take the track that sets off along the cliff tops. Stay on the track to L'Alpette and the mid-way station of the Vaujany cable car. Return on the same track if you wish to stay on the wide path or else take the XC no.11 path which takes you up and down alongside four lakes (Carrelet, Faucille, Besson and Noir). Take care as the path may get tricky, depending on the precise path you take (there are many options), but stay on the waymarked trail. You can then return on the Route du Lac Besson and ride to the Poutran cable car station on the easily visible track that passes just below.
Recharging: available at the restaurant at Lac Besson.
Refreshments and restaurants during the ride: a restaurant on the Route du Lac Besson and another next to the lake itself.
Points of interest en-route: magnificent scenery and views.
Craft: Alpe d'Huez Chantournage.
The Musée d'Huez et de l'Oisans Museum and the Palais des Sports sports centre.
Summer market: Friday mornings in Alpe d'Huez opposite the Tourist Office.
